# Local database copy

This procedure creates an independent local copy with VACUUM INTO. The source must use UTF-8 and contain no WITHOUT ROWID user tables.

## Create the copy

1. Finish the current connection's open transaction.
2. Choose an absent or empty destination path.
3. Run VACUUM INTO from the source connection.

```text
VACUUM INTO '/tmp/coordinator-copy.db';
```

The command copies `main`. Native CoordinatorDB values remain native in the result.

## Open the copy

Stop any process using the destination before reopening it. Start a separate CoordinatorDB instance with `--db` pointing to the copy and its own native and HTTP listener addresses.

Use independent database files for separate processes. Simultaneous access to one file from different processes is unsupported.

See [database copies](https://coordinatordb.com/docs/concepts/features/backup-restore/overview) for command restrictions and [server configuration](https://coordinatordb.com/docs/concepts/features/configuration/server-config/configuration-files) for address and path overrides.
